We are sharing one of our families favorite comfort foods to make on a cold night! This recipe was handed down to me from my grandma, and is a true home-made dumpling recipe. You can also opt to make your own chicken broth if you wish, but we use store bought. She would always make it for me when I would come to visit and I always loved it. Now my little boy loves it so I thought I would share it with you.

Ingredients for dumplings:

  • 2 cups of All purpose Flour
  • 4 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped thyme
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 cup of diced onion
  • 4 cups of chicken Broth/ Sour cream
  • 2 cups of diced or shredded Chicken

Getting Started

First your going to boil a pot of water and add salt. Then mix flour, melted butter, eggs, salt, thyme, and pepper in a bowl until all lumps are removed. Meanwhile start the chicken in a separate pan with diced onion, cook 25 minutes or until at least 165 degrees all the way through.

Boiling the Dumplings

Next spoon dough into small balls and drop into boiling water. Try to use up all dough quickly, so all the dumplings can cook the same amount of time. Then Cover and let boil for 20 minutes without lifting the lid, until the dumplings float to the top. After that drain half the water.

Finishing Touches

Season chicken, then shred or dice chicken into small pieces, add chicken to dumplings and add chicken broth or sour cream, let simmer. Add salt and pepper to taste, and serve!

Hope you enjoy!
